Serves as point of contact for STO programs and projects and as spokesperson in space related industry-wide discussions and Center, industry, inter-Center, legislative, and community relations. Develops programmatic and administrative policy for future STO initiatives. Supervises the efforts of subordinate organizations in establishing short-range and long-range plans, defining requirements for and managing assigned programs/projects. Maintains collaborative working relationships with external agencies and organizations, including the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, international partners, universities, science institutes, and federally funded research and development centers. Draws upon an expert knowledge of spacecraft and systems development and program and project management development to direct, lead, and move the organization forward while breaking new ground and simultaneously managing diverse projects/programs. Manages systems development programs, projects, and activities in support of NASA Headquarters mission directorates. Is responsible for overall planning, coordination, and management of all STO activities.
Builds productive, mutually beneficial relationships with supporting organizations on the center and across the Agency. The Deputy Manager, Science and Technology Office: - Supervises a highly-technical workforce of approximately 300 civil service and contract employees and manages an annual budget of $475 million.
Duties This position reports to the Director of the Science and Technology Office. Additionally, STO leads the pursuit of new opportunities and partnerships with other government agencies and private industry. It is responsible for the Technology Demonstration Missions Program Office and the Planetary Missions Program Office. Summary The Science and Technology Office (STO) plans, develops, and executes a broad range of science and technology investigations, programs, projects, and activities in support of NASA's science, technology, and exploration goals.
